RULES

1. The object is to play enjoyable tennis.
2. Players must be the relevant age by December 31st.
3. Each team consists of two couples, who play two tie-break sets against both opposition couples. Spin to decide which round comes first. Away couples stay on the same court.
4. Matches start at 10 am.
SUNDAYS
5. New scoring system: one point per set won. This means (a) every set counts and (b) it is worth turning out even if you can raise only 1 couple - you can still get up to 4 points. Games difference will be used if teams are equal on points at the end of the season.
6. Minus 3 points for giving a walkover. Walkovers damage leagues by giving free points to the undeserving.
7. Promotion and relegation: basically three up and three down, but this may be adjusted if different teams or different numbers of teams enter next year.
8. Rearrangements: if one club is involved in a superior (e.g. LTA or SLTA) competition, their opponents must agree to a rearrangement. In line with Rule 1 above, all clubs are asked to agree to rearrangements requested for other reasons, if reasonable notice is given. Matches rained off completely should be rearranged. If a match is rained off in the middle, scores up to that point count. Captains can agree to split uncompleted/unplayed sets if they wish, but either side may ask to play the balance of the match from the score reached - with the same players if possible or substitutes if not.
9. Results: the home team is responsible for sending the result by post or e-mail to the Veterans' League Secretary:
Nick Alexander, 3 West Hatton, Kirknewton, Midlothian EH27 8DZ. 0131-333 4636
nha@globalnet.co.uk
10. Contact and communication: before the Leagues begin, please send the Veterans' League Secretary (a) a contact name and phone number for each team, for circulating to other teams, and (b) one or more e-mail addresses for each club, to which running League tables can be sent. Tables will also be posted on the website.
